Laurence Hugues is a writer and video-poet whose work blends documentary sources with an intimate, observational approach. She conducts public readings and writing workshops, and her literary projects span fiction, essays, and children’s literature. Engaged with themes of the Anthropocene and biodiversity loss, she explores the relationships between humans and non-human life. The Bear and the Persimmons, her children’s literature venture, was inspired by an encounter with a falcon during the COVID-19 lockdown in Japan. Her story, “Nanki aur Choru ki Dunia”, developed during her 2024 residency at the Eklavya Foundation, Bhopal, under the French Institute in India’s Villa Swagatam programme, was serialized in Chakmak magazine (July-Sept 2025).
